Are there any natural treatments for acne and how effective are these?
Two studies involving topical tea tree oil showed it has anti-bacterial properties that may help to kill bacteria associated with some acne. However, it takes longer to work than benzoyl peroxide and there is a small risk of an allergic reaction for some.
Oral zinc, a trace element found in foods like eggs and mushrooms, is thought to have anti-inflammatory properties. It may help to reduce redness and swelling in acne. Check with your physician about dosage.
*Few clinical studies have been done on natural treatments for acne so there is little evidence to support the use of these. More studies need to be done on these treatments.
